In the numerous commentaries to the Washington Post article featuring Russia’s President Putin’s interview with the AP Americans lend huge support to the Russian President totally siding with him on most of the issues.

“From our viewpoint, it seems absolutely absurd that the armed forces, the regular armed forces, which are on the offensive today and in some areas have encircled the so-called rebels and are finishing them off, that in these conditions they would start using forbidden chemical weapons while realizing quite well that it could serve as a pretext for applying sanctions against them, including the use of force,” Mr Putin said in today's interview the Associated Press. He also warned the US from acting on Syria issue on its own and obtain approval from the Security Council before taking any action.
The Washington Post article containing Putin’s standpoint on the chemical weapon use in Syria provoked a unanimous response from the Wash Post readers who appeared to be on the same page with the Russian President.
User Rachel Guess praises Putin, stating that he “has been the voice of reason on this issue from the very beginning” while Obama is ready to engage in a conflict that “isn't any of our [American] business, that “poses no threat to the US”, and “may start WWIII”.
User LibBrit backs Putin in his appeal to wait for the UN’s decision before taking military action in Syria, “Putin is right; wait for the UN report”. He admits the US “is taking the moral high ground in citing the illegality of chemical weapon use in Syria as a reason to make a military strike against Assad”, but at the same time he is worried “the race to bomb is taking precedence over standing back and taking an informed and intelligent view”.
Contemplating the possibilities of whether it was Assad to have used the chemical weapons user CobraMechanic sides with Putin, “I agree with Putin, it doesn't make any sense that Assad would use chemical weapons now, after over two years, and while the Syrian Army is regaining lost territory. There is no need, ether tactically or strategically, to use chemical weapons, at least not by Assad.” He also pointed out that “Assad's forces are WINNING despite the disadvantages they are facing”. He says it would make no sense for Assad to take such risk “violating the international ban on the use of chemical weapons.”
Further on, CobraMechanic accuses Obama of not being interested in the truth, since “his administration has already claimed that the UN inspectors have a mandate to determine if chemical weapons has been used but not who used them. Obama doesn't care who used them, he wants to punish Assad no matter what.”
User LibBrit sees in Putin’s words an appeal for Obama administration “to ensure the US doesn't act alone." The user sides with the Russian President in this appeal, as well as the message for Obama to slow down and come to a joint decision “on the one hand he [Putin] is saying until the UN provides evidence no action should be taken and on the other hand, he is implying that should the UN provide evidence that Assad has used chemical weapons then Russia would consider a UN mandate to take action. That is what Obama and Congress are at risk of overlooking, whereas I would expect Britain and France would pick up on it. If everyone would just slow down a little, wait for the UN report and then discuss a course of action we might avoid another 10 years of conflict.”
Many users show great disapproval of Obama’s policy concerning Syria, even calling him “stupid (user GWiii)” and the “the worst president in the history of the US (user Brad L)” and hope he would listen to what Putin is saying to him.
