As investigators search for the cause of a plane crash that killed 224 people over the Sinai Peninsula on Saturday and Russia suspends all flights to Egypt, U.S. officials said they are taking unspecified precautionary measures to enhance the security of flights from the Middle East.
“While the facts and circumstances surrounding the tragic October 31 crash of Metrojet Flight 9268 on the Sinai Peninsula are still under investigation, Transportation Security Administrator (TSA) Peter Neffenger and I, out of an abundance of caution, have identified a series of interim, precautionary enhancements to aviation security with respect to commercial flights bound for the United States from certain foreign airports in the region,” Jeh C. Johnson, secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, said in a statement.

Johnson said the enhancements, also adopted by European aviation authorities, “are designed to provide an additional layer of security for the traveling public, and will be undertaken in consultation with relevant foreign governments and relevant passenger and cargo airlines.”

Miracle stowaway survives five hour jet flight hidden in wheel well

Airport authorities in the US are trying to work out how a 16 year-old boy survived a five hour flight hidden in the wheel well of a jet liner.

During the journey from San Jose airport in California to Maui in Hawaii, the plane climbed to 12,000 metres.

The 16-year-old who was picked up by police after being spotted by ground crew, apparently lost consciousness due to a lack of oxygen and temperatures in the compartment dropping to minus 62 degrees Celsius.

But how did he get onto the plane in the first place?

Spokesperson for Mineta San Jose International airport, Rosemary Barnes gave her theory:

"No system is 100 percent secure and it is possible to scale a perimeter fence line, especially under cover of darkness and remain undetected and it appears that is what this teenager did."

Lucky to be alive, the stowaway arrived in Hawaii with nothing but a hair comb. When questioned he told FBI officials he had run away from home.

The authorities are reviewing whether to file criminal charges against the boy.

Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif.,said on Twitter that the incident "demonstrates vulnerabilities that need to be addressed."

Actually Mr Swalwell of California, it reflects on the government's inept  and overreaching attempts  at  ensuring security. 

While the TSA  focuses on tormenting and  harassing  the  elderly the handicapped and  toddlers; the real security threats  are  left unattended. 

Inept , inexperienced and  unqualified  agents are entrusted  with  the safety of  passengers who are groped and fondled in the  name  of  National  security. 

Isn't it about time the government  left that  job to the airports  and  the  private  security  firms who  know  what they are  doing and have never had  to  molest a  passenger  to do it ?

But the TSA  was  never  really  about  security  was it?  It was  rather  a  weapon  of  indoctrination  to ensure  the slow  but steady subjugation of a  people.  It was  more  about  familiarizing  the  American People  with the  violatuion of  their freedom and  personal  space.   As well as the knowledge of helplessness against said violations.  All in the name of National Security , of course.

Wasn't it ?

Had it been  otherwise.  Had  the  desire  to  provide  security  been  real.   The bungling, ineptitude and depraved abuse of power  that  has been  witnessed  would not have been  tolerated.  This  has all been a  sham  to  train the  people to knuckle  under and  be  humiliated.  As  much as  it  has  been  about  making  millions  for  Chertoff  and  his scanners .....all strategically  placed in  airports  .....for  our own  good  of  course.

Never allowing a good crisis to go to waste........

Teen Stowaway Walked Right Through San Jose Airport Security Gap

Surveillance video at two airports shows how a 16-year-old boy managed to stow away in the wheel well of a flight from California to Hawaii — He simply climbed a fence without anyone stopping him, authorities told NBC News on Monday.

The boy from Santa Clara, Calif., who is believed to have run away after an argument with his father, first hopped a fence Sunday at about 1 a.m. local time (4 a.m. ET) near a fuel farm at Mineta San Jose International Airport, officials said.

About 12 minutes later, video shows him climbing into the wheel well of Hawaiian Airlines Flight 45, which was parked between gates two and three. He apparently chose the plane at random, authorities said.

The jet plane landed at Kahului Airport at 10:30 a.m. local (4:30 p.m. ET) Sunday.

About 45 minutes later, the boy can be seen on video at that airport climbing out of the left main landing gear wheel — disoriented but in good condition, despite having been unconscious with little oxygen for most of the 5½-hour flight. Airline personnel immediately noticed him on the tarmac and called authorities.

While the fact that the boy beat the odds of survival is good news, the episode raises troubling questions about security at airports.

Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., a member of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee, said on Twitter that the incident "demonstrates vulnerabilities that need to be addressed."

A WOMAN claims an airport security agent refused to let her disabled sister on board a plane because she couldn’t say her own name.

Sherry Wright says she was shocked at the treatment they received at Los Angeles International Airport, where her sister Heidi was due to fly to Phoenix.
The problems began when Heidi, who was left wheelchair-bond and unable to speak or write after a stroke a decade ago, was stopped by the Transport Security Administration (TSA) due to an expired driver’s licence, CNN reported.
Sherry claims the TSA agent was rude and insensitive, insisting Heidi talk.
“I showed her ID, her social and her DMV (licence) papers,” Sherry said, to no avail.
“He just wanted me to make my sister talk, and I couldn’t believe it.

As we reported several weeks ago, a Tennessee man built a firing gun from items he purchased at the airport — after going through security. Since his project received a huge variety of responses from our readers, I decided to reach out to him and find out more.
Evan Booth, a computer programmer from Greensboro, created the gun using items like a hairdryer, lithium batteries, and body spray. He calls his creation BLUNDERBUSiness.
Booth said he decided to embark on this project after the TSA introduced body scanners, which he believes violate travelers’ privacy.
He told me, “People who understand security understand that the current screening procedures exist primarily to put passengers at ease — ‘security theater,’ if you will. They also know that, given enough time, a persistent attacker will succeed to some degree.”
Booth was able to shoot pocket change out of his gun with enough power to blow a hole through Sheetrock.

In addition to creating BLUNDERBUSiness, Booth made several other deadly weapons — also using common items purchased in airport stores.

It disappears in the footage because it flew about six feet backwards from the recoil. I didn't anticipate NEARLY that much recoil, so I didn't anchor it down adequately.

Those who fear 3D-printed plastic guns take note: a Tennessee man has demonstrated that a deadly firearm can also be made completely out of items available from airport retail stores.
Web developer Evan Booth of Greensboro, North Carolina moonlights as a 'security expert' and can make projectile weapons with things like hairdryers and Axe body spray--all of which you can get after you make it through security.
While he has an airport crossbow, blowgun, and spiked club, it's Booth's hand-built gun--which he calls his BLUNDERBUSiness Class--that seems most worrisome.

Moonlighting: Evan Booth works with computers by day but calls himself a 'security researcher' by night, which is when he tinkers with his airport weapons at his home in North Carolina

The idea for his BLUNDERBUSiness gun came to him after he realized airports sell lithium batteries. When mixed with water, that lithium can create enough heat to turn a can of Axe body spray into aromatic ammunition.
Combine it with a hollowed out hair dryer, some gossip magazines and other sundries and you’ve got yourself a gun.
‘Right now if I wanted to build something very potent, I would probably go toward lithium,’ says Booth.
His YouTube demonstrations show his DIY gun propelling a handful of pocket change powerfully enough to blow a quart-sized hole though Sheetrock.
In an effort to win some research funds—and shield himself from unfriendly investigators—Booth notified the FBI, CIA, and other agencies of his activities prior to posting them on the internet.
‘It would have been awesome if I’d had access to, like, a cockpit door,’ he says.
Booth continues to tinker away at his airport terminal weapons and tells Fast Company he has a stun gun and others in mind already.

Phyllis May of Redmond, Wash. says she is “appalled and shocked and embarrassed all at the same time” about the incident that happened on Dec. 3.
May has a small business selling unique sock monkey dolls. She says she and her husband were on their way from St. Louis to Sea-Tac and she had a couple of monkeys and sewing supplies with her in a carry-on bag.
“His pistol was in there,” she says of the sock monkey “Rooster Monkburn,” a take-off on John Wayne character “Rooster Cogburn” from the film “True Grit.”
May and her husband were going through the screening process when she noticed that one of her bags was missing.
“And the (TSA agent) held it up and said ‘whose is this?’” she said. “I realized oh, my God this is my bag.”

Federal air marshal arrested for taking cell phone photos up women's skirts (Video)

A passenger reported the air marshal after seeing the man use his cell phone to snap pictures up at least one woman's dress. (on.aol.com)

A federal air marshal was arrested in Nashville, Tenn., Thursday for allegedly taking cell phone photographs up women passengers' skirts. Adam Bartsch, 28, was arrested after another male passenger noticed him taking the inappropriate photos, and wrestled the federal air marshal's cell phone from his hands, according to ABC News2 on Oct. 17.
Passenger Rey Collazo said he first saw Bartsch, who he did not know was an on-duty air marshal, taking the pictures while boarding the plane.
He described how he reached over and grabbed the cell phone from Bartsch. Collazo said he had to twist the phone out of the marshal's hand, and after a short struggle he shoved him back and took the phone away from him.
Collazo notified the flight crew, who in turn called authorities, after first calling Bartsch a "disgrace" to men and human being.

Police Search For Dry Ice Bomb Suspect After 3 More Devices Found At LAX

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Detectives Tuesday continued their efforts to find the suspect wanted for planting dry ice bombs around Los Angeles International Airport.
One dry ice bomb exploded and two plastic bottles containing the dangerous material were found around 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Tom Bradley International Terminal in a restricted area, Los Angeles Police Department Det. Gus Villanueva said.
No one was injured, and no flights were delayed.
Airport police and a bomb squad cleared the items around 9:45 p.m.
Extra police patrols and bomb sniffing dogs remained were at the airport Monday.
“We’re doing what we usually do, but we’re just more exposed today just because of what’s going on,” LAX Airport Police Officer Robert Corchado said.
On Sunday, another dry ice device exploded inside an employee bathroom at LAX’s Terminal 2. No injuries were reported in that incident.
In both instances, the bombs were left in an area of the airport that requires special clearance for access. Officials are investigating whether they may have been set up by an employee.

LAX dry ice bombs: 4 devices left in restricted areas, police say

Detectives late Monday were investigating how four dry ice bombs -- two of which exploded -- were placed in restricted areas at Los Angeles International Airport.

A dry ice bomb exploded Monday about 8:30 p.m. in a section accessible only to employees near the gate of the Tom Bradley International Terminal, law enforcement authorities said.

UPDATE: Focus on security where dry ice bombs planted

Two similar devices were found in the area. All three were bottles with dry ice inside, according to LAX police.

The devices appeared to be outside the terminal near planes, according to television news footage.

No injuries were reported, police said, adding that there was minimal disruption of normal airport activities.

On Sunday night, a dry ice bomb exploded about 7 p.m. in a restroom at Terminal 2, which is home to several international and domestic airlines.
